Jake Makela

Jake Makela is a 2024-2025 Self Memorial Scholar, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Ph.D. student, and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Kansas. He graduated from KU’s University Honors Program with degrees in English and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Jake's research focuses on the intersection of trans* studies, rhetorical analysis, auto-theory, fiction and poetry writing, and fiber arts. Outside of school, Jake works as an Office and Program Assistant for Douglas County CASA, helping connect volunteers advocates to kids involved in the child welfare system.
