Biography

Helen Ugah situates her research at the intersection of violence, transnational feminism, African studies, and gender and sexuality to investigate the forms of violence experienced by women in Nigerian public spaces, and how women narrate, interpret, and internalize their experiences of violence in public spaces.  Specifically, she is interested in how the policing of women’s bodies in shifting contexts affects and shapes women’s lives and choices in relation to violence in public spaces.
