Biography

Amber is a fifth year PhD student in Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies at the University of Kansas. Originally from Alabama, Amber completed her undergraduate studies at The University of Alabama, and she has a Master’s degree in Anthropology and Women’s, Gender, Sexuality Studies from Brandeis as well as a Master’s in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from KU. In addition to working toward her PhD, Amber is also pursuing her third Master’s degree in Public Administration, which she will complete in May 2024. Her dissertation research will focus on the disparities in maternal healthcare in the United States, particularly the simultaneous racist and sexist systems that disadvantage Black women. While she will always bleed Crimson and White, Amber enjoys living in Lawrence with her dog, Freya, and being part of the KU community. Her local favorites include the Mutt Run off-leash dog park, Sylas and Maddy’s Homemade Ice Cream, and Pueblo Mexican Restaurant. Roll Tide!
